Taiwan Monitors Chinese Military Aircraft and Ships Near Its Borders

Taipei, Taiwan – Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported that from 6 am on Tuesday to 6 am on Wednesday, 21 Chinese military aircraft and nine naval vessels were detected operating near Taiwan. Thirteen of these aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan’s northern, southwestern, and eastern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ).

In response, Taiwan deployed aircraft, naval ships, and coastal-based missile systems to monitor the activity of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Taiwan’s MND shared on X, “21 PLA aircraft, 9 PLAN vessels and 1 official ship operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. today. 13 of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s central and southwestern ADIZ. We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly.”

This incident is part of a series of similar actions by China in recent months, including regular air and naval incursions into Taiwan’s ADIZ and military exercises near the island. On Monday, Taiwan’s MND also detected 17 Chinese military aircraft, seven naval vessels, and one official ship operating near Taiwan. Twelve of these aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan’s northern, southwestern, and eastern ADIZ.

Taiwan’s MND stated on X, “17 PLA aircraft, 7 PLAN vessels and 1 official ship operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. today. 12 of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s northern, central, and southwestern ADIZ. We have monitored the situation and responded.”

Air Defence Identification Zone -: This is a special area in the sky where a country monitors and controls aircraft to protect its security.

Ministry of National Defence -: This is a part of Taiwan’s government responsible for managing the country’s military and protecting it from threats.

coastal missile systems -: These are weapons placed near the coast that can launch missiles to defend against enemy ships or aircraft.
