Taiwan Monitors Chinese Military Aircraft and Naval Vessels Near Its Borders
Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence reported that 25 Chinese military aircraft and 10 naval vessels were detected around Taiwan from 6 am on Tuesday to 6 am on Wednesday. Of these, 20 aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan’s northern, central, southwest, and eastern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ).
Taiwan responded by sending aircraft, naval ships, and deploying coastal-based missile systems to monitor China’s military activity.
In a post on X, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence stated, “25 PLA aircraft and 10 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. today. 20 of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s northern, central, southwest, and eastern ADIZ. We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly.”
This incident adds to a series of similar provocations by China in recent months. China has increased its military activities around Taiwan, including regular air and naval incursions into Taiwan’s ADIZ and military exercises near the island.
Taiwan has been governed independently of China since 1949. However, China considers Taiwan part of its territory and insists on eventual reunification, by force if necessary.
Earlier on Tuesday, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence said that 14 Chinese military aircraft and nine naval vessels were detected operating around Taiwan from 6 am on Monday to 6 am on Tuesday. Of the 14 aircraft, seven crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan’s northern and central ADIZ.
In a post on X, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence stated, “14 PLA aircraft and 9 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. today. 7 of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan’s northern and central ADIZ. We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly.”
