Taiwan Criticizes China for Violating Japan’s Airspace and Regional Peace

Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has condemned China for violating Japan’s airspace and increasing regional tensions. According to Taiwan News, a Chinese Shaanxi Y-9 reconnaissance plane entered Japanese airspace east of the Danjo Islands on Monday, which Taiwan’s MoFA says seriously violated Japan’s sovereignty and raised regional tensions.

China’s continued use of military aircraft and warships to intrude into Taiwan and Japan’s air defense identification zones and exclusive economic zones has increased regional tensions. China collaborates with Russia in frequent military exercises in the East China Sea and South China Sea, attempting to use force to change the status quo. Taiwan’s MoFA stated that China’s military expansion poses a major threat to the security of nations in the Indo-Pacific region, including Taiwan and Japan.

Taiwan’s MoFA urged China to return to rationality and self-restraint and to cease all actions that undermine peace in the Taiwan Strait and escalate regional tensions. Taiwan will bolster its self-defense capabilities while continuing to cooperate with like-minded nations, including Japan, to jointly deter the expansion and aggression of authoritarianism.

On Tuesday, Taiwan’s MoFA reshared a post by US Ambassador to Japan, Rahm Emanuel, on X, criticizing China’s lack of a spirit of ‘love thy neighbour’ in its ‘good neighbour’ policy. Taiwan’s MoFA also slammed China for intruding into Japan’s airspace and ramming Philippine vessels. Taiwan’s MoFA said China’s ambitions have transcended Taiwan to menace security in the region and urged democracies to unite to counter this authoritarian push.
