Taiwan Cracks Down on Illegal Cloud Arrow Firearms from China

In a series of police raids conducted on October 8, 9, and 14, Taiwanese authorities seized three packages containing 76 new firearms known as cloud arrows. These weapons, imported from China, have been identified as having lethal capabilities. The National Police Agency (NPA) announced on October 30 that a special task force is investigating the illegal online sales of these firearms.

Preliminary tests show that cloud arrows are equipped with a metal barrel, grip, and firing mechanism. When loaded with gunpowder, they can launch steel ball bearings, classifying them as firearms capable of firing metal bullets or pellets with lethal force under Taiwan’s Firearms, Ammunition, and Knives Control Act. This Act prohibits the manufacture, sale, transportation, or possession of such firearms.

Several suspects, including a man named Lin, have been identified in the illegal sale of these firearms. Lin was arrested on October 17 in New Taipei City but has since been released. The investigation continues to identify and apprehend more individuals involved in this illegal operation.

The Criminal Police Bureau has instructed online platforms to remove listings for cloud arrows and requested increased customs inspections to prevent further illegal imports. Authorities are taking these actions seriously to crack down on illegal firearm sales and ensure public safety across Taiwan. The public is advised against purchasing or possessing these illegal firearms to avoid legal consequences.

The NPA stresses the dangers these weapons pose to society and the importance of following firearm regulations. The government is committed to tackling the illegal arms trade and enhancing public safety to protect citizens from the risks of unregulated firearms.
