South Africa’s left-arm spinner Tabraiz Shamsi was awarded Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance against West Indies in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Shamsi took three wickets and gave away only 27 runs in his four overs.

In a thrilling match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, South Africa extended their unbeaten run to seven matches and reached the semifinals with a three-wicket win over West Indies. Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada played crucial roles in the victory, despite strong performances from West Indies’ Roston Chase and Alzarri Joseph.

Shamsi expressed his gratitude towards the coaching staff for their support, saying, “I just had to back my plans and got the backing from the coaching staff to come back at the ground where I hadn’t done well.”

South Africa won the toss and chose to bowl first. West Indies were initially reduced to 5/2, but a partnership between Kyle Mayers and Roston Chase brought them back into the game. However, South Africa’s bowlers kept taking wickets, limiting West Indies to 135/8 in 20 overs.

In the run-chase, South Africa faced a revised target of 123 runs in 17 overs due to rain. Despite losing early wickets, crucial contributions from Tristan Stubbs and Heinrich Klaasen kept them in the game. Jansen and Rabada eventually secured the win with five balls to spare.

Roston Chase was the standout bowler for West Indies, taking three wickets for just 12 runs.
