Syed Naseruddin Chishty and Haji Syed Salman Chishty Respond to Rahul Gandhi’s Remarks on ‘Abhayamudra’
Ajmer (Rajasthan) [India], July 1: Syed Naseruddin Chishty, Chairman of All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council, responded to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in the Lok Sabha. Chishty stated that there is no mention of ‘Abhayamudra’ in Islam and that Gandhi should correct his statement. He emphasized that Islam does not include idol worship or any kind of mudra.
Haji Syed Salman Chishty, Gaddi Nashin-Dargah Ajmer Sharif, also commented, saying that Gandhi should understand which symbols belong to which faith. He noted that linking ‘Abhayamudra’ to Islamic practices is incorrect and not supported by holy scriptures or teachings of saints.
During the debate on the motion of thanks in the President’s Address, Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP-led government, alleging a systematic attack on the idea of India and the Constitution. He claimed that many leaders, including himself, were personally attacked and some are still in jail. Gandhi described ‘Abhayamudra’ as a symbol of fearlessness and reassurance present in various Indian religions, including Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, and Buddhism.
Home Minister Amit Shah responded by stating that connecting violence with any religion is wrong and demanded an apology from Gandhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also criticized Gandhi’s remarks, calling them a serious matter.
