Swedish Uyghur Committee Criticizes China’s Treatment of Uyghurs in East Turkistan
The Svenska Uyghur Kommitten (SUK), also known as the Swedish Uyghur Committee, has criticized the Chinese government for spreading false information about the Uyghurs in East Turkistan. The SUK statement also mentioned a case where a 15-year-old Uyghur girl was labeled a terrorist and sent to a reeducation camp, calling it a grotesque fabrication. The SUK argues that this is not about national security but a deliberate strategy to erase the Uyghur people.
Historically, East Turkistan was an independent country until it was invaded and annexed by China in 1949. Since then, the region has faced relentless colonization and systemic oppression. Over a million Uyghur children have been forcibly removed from their families and placed in Chinese state-run facilities, where they are stripped of their language, culture, and faith.
The SUK also highlighted that the Chinese government uses coerced Uyghur testimonies in state-sponsored propaganda to manipulate global perception. The SUK urges the international community to recognize China’s actions in East Turkistan as part of a comprehensive strategy of genocide, colonization, and occupation.
The SUK calls for decisive international action to address these atrocities before an entire culture is lost to history.
