Swapnil Kusale Wins Bronze in Men’s 50m Rifle at Paris 2024 Olympics
New Delhi, India – August 1: Indian Railway’s Swapnil Kusale has made history by winning a bronze medal in the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions at the Paris 2024 Olympics. This is India’s first-ever Olympic medal in this event and the country’s third medal in shooting at the Paris Olympics Games.
Swapnil scored an impressive 451.4 points in the finals, starting from sixth position and climbing the ranks to secure the bronze medal. The 50m Rifle 3 Positions event involves shooters taking 20 shots each in kneeling, prone, and standing positions.
Swapnil Kusale, from Kolhapur, Maharashtra, joined Indian Railways in 2015 as a Commercial cum Ticket Clerk in Pune Division of Central Railway. He has previously won gold medals at the Asian Games in China (2023), World Cup in Baku (2022), and New Delhi (2021), along with several silver and bronze medals in various championships from 2015 to 2023.
Indian Railways has always supported its athletes with excellent sports infrastructure and flexible working hours for practice. Central Railway GM Ramkaran Yadav announced that Swapnil will be promoted to Officer on Special Duty (OSD) following his historic achievement.
“This is a big thing for our Central Railway that one of the employees has won a bronze medal in the 50m Rifle. We are proud of him…He will soon be promoted to official grade and will be appointed as an OSD,” said Ramkaran Yadav.
