Swapnil Kusale Wins Bronze in Men’s 50m Rifle 3P at Paris Olympics
Indian shooter Swapnil Kusale made history by winning a bronze medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3P event at the Paris Olympics. This is India’s first-ever medal in this category. Kusale finished third with an aggregate score of 451.4, securing India’s third overall medal in shooting at these Games.
International Olympic Committee member Nita Ambani praised Kusale, saying, “We are incredibly proud of Swapnil Kusale for creating history at the Paris Olympics by winning India’s first-ever medal in the 50m rifle event, and our third Bronze in shooting at these Games! His hard work and dedication have brought glory to the nation! Heartiest congratulations to Swapnil, his family, and the entire team!”
Earlier, Kusale finished seventh in the qualification round with a score of 590-38x, allowing him to advance to the final. Fellow Indian shooter Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar ranked 11th with a score of 589-33x and did not qualify for the final. The People’s Republic of China’s Liu Yukun set a qualification Olympic record with a score of 594-38x.
In other events, Indian shooter Manu Bhaker won a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event, becoming the first Indian woman in 20 years to reach a shooting final in an individual event since Suma Shirur in 2004. Manu and Sarabjot Singh also won a bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, defeating South Korea’s Lee Wonho and Oh Ye Jin 16-10.
