Indian shooter Swapnil Kusale made history by winning a bronze medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3P event at the Paris Olympics. This achievement marks India’s best-ever performance in shooting at the Olympics.

Kusale secured the bronze with an aggregate of 451.4 points. He dedicated his win to the nation, his family, and his support staff. Kusale said, “Winning the Olympic medal is the dream of every athlete. I have worked hard for so many years and achieved a level here. Even after this, I will work hard, and I will make the country proud in the next Olympics.”

During the final, Kusale spent most of the time in the sixth spot but consistently shot 10s to gradually move up to a medal position. He revealed that he didn’t look at the scoreboard and focused on staying calm and following his procedure.

Kusale thanked the National Rifle Association of India, the Sports Authority of India, and everyone associated with the athletes for their support. He expressed his pride and emotions when he saw the Indian flag rise during the medal ceremony.

Kusale’s journey in shooting began in his childhood, supported by his father and the Maharashtra government’s Krida Prabodhini scheme. His love for shooting grew as he competed in national and international events.

India’s previous best performance in Olympic shooting came at the 2012 London Olympics, with Vijay Kumar winning a silver and Gagan Narang a bronze. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore earned India’s first shooting medal in 2004, followed by Abhinav Bindra’s historic gold in 2008.

India has a chance to extend its medal tally with Manu Bhaker set to compete in the 25m pistol event on Friday.
