On the occasion of the 78th year of Independence, Yog Guru Baba Ramdev and Patanjali Ayurved MD Acharya Balakrishna hoisted the national flag at Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar on Thursday. They celebrated Independence Day along with children, chanting the slogan ‘Vande Mataram’ and singing the national anthem.

Swami Ramdev remembered the sacrifices and bravery of the freedom fighters of the country. He said, ‘We have got this independence just because of the bravery and sacrifices of more than five lakhs freedom fighters of our country.’ Ramdev also talked about British rule and the financial exploitation that happened during that period, stating that the Britishers, along with the East India Company, had looted more than a thousand crores from the nation. ‘On this day of independence, we have pledged to bring financial independence in the country,’ said Ramdev.

Earlier, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami hoisted the national flag and said that Uttarakhand will emerge as the best state in the country. ‘From the land of Baba Kedar, for the first time, the Prime Minister said that the third decade of the 21st century will belong to Uttarakhand. Today, we have to take oath that in the next 10 years, Uttarakhand will emerge as the best state of the country, as a self-reliant, developed state,’ CM Dhami said. He announced several schemes to boost the state’s development, including developing one local body in each district as a model body, increasing the pension scheme account from Rs 4000 to Rs 6000, connecting youth with skill development schemes, and developing a welfare scheme for senior citizens.
