Swami Avimukteshwaranand Opposes Building Kedarnath Temple in Delhi
Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 16: Swami Avimukteshwaranand, the Shankaracharya of Jyotirmath, has voiced strong opposition to the construction of a Kedarnath temple in Delhi. He emphasized that a temple is a place for meditation, not economic activities, and that an ‘alternative’ for Kedarnath Dham is unacceptable.
Concerns Over Trust’s Provisions
Swami Avimukteshwaranand criticized the Delhi Kedarnath Trust for its provisions of refunding and transferring memberships, calling it a sin and against cultural values. He stated, “Mandir is not an economic center, it’s a center for meditation. You cannot shift Kedarnath Dham. This is not acceptable.”
Gold Scam Allegations
He also raised concerns about a gold scam involving the Kedarnath temple, where 228 kg of gold is allegedly missing. He questioned the lack of proper investigation into the matter and warned that building a Kedarnath temple in Delhi could lead to further scams.
Historical Significance of Kedarnath
The Kedarnath temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the most sacred Shiva shrines in India. Located in Uttarakhand, it was originally built in the 8th century AD by Jagad Guru Adi Shankaracharya and stands next to an even older temple built by the Pandavas.
