LPG Week 2024: A Push for Cleaner Fuel Alternatives
Introduction
As LPG Week 2024 approaches, Suyash Gupta, Director General of the Indian Auto LPG Coalition (IAC), is urging the Government of India and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to adopt Auto LPG as a cleaner and more cost-effective fuel alternative.
Environmental and Economic Benefits
Gupta describes Auto LPG as a “Net Zero Hero,” highlighting its environmental and economic advantages. Auto LPG emits 20% less CO2 than petrol and 60% less than diesel, with minimal particulate matter and lower NOx emissions. It is also approximately 40% cheaper than petrol, with conversion costs for petrol vehicles around Rs30,000, compared to Rs3-5 lakh for electric vehicle conversions.
Global Event and Autogas Day
The global event, held from November 18-22 in Cape Town, South Africa, will gather leaders from over 300 companies across 125 countries. A key highlight is Autogas Day on November 21, featuring expert panels and discussions on the benefits of Autogas.
Opportunities for India
Despite the success of the Ujjwala Yojana and over 1,500 Auto LPG stations, India’s usage is only 0.35 million tonnes annually. Gupta sees a vast opportunity for expansion and urges policymakers to integrate Auto LPG into India’s policies to achieve environmental and economic goals.
