Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 28: West Bengal’s Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has written a letter to the National Commission for Minorities (NCM), the National Commission for Women (NCW), and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). He urged these bodies to send a team to West Bengal to investigate alleged post-poll violence in the state.

Adhikari reported incidents where BJP workers were allegedly beaten and their offices vandalized after the Lok Sabha 2024 results. He specifically mentioned the brutal attack on Hossainara Begum, Vice President of BJP Minority Morcha, by TMC goons on June 25, 2024. Begum was severely assaulted and is currently hospitalized in alarming condition.

Adhikari emphasized that this incident is an example of the violence faced by minority women in West Bengal. He requested the commissions to send investigation teams to the spot and provided evidence including complaints, photographs, and video footage.

On Thursday, Adhikari welcomed the Calcutta High Court’s decision to give the Central Government full discretion to deploy Central Armed Paramilitary Forces in West Bengal to protect victims of post-poll violence. He termed the decision as historic and a failure of the state machinery.

Earlier, Adhikari was stopped by police from entering the Raj Bhavan to meet Governor CV Ananda Bose with alleged victims of post-poll violence. He had also written to the Governor, raising concerns about the All India Trinamool Congress’ alleged role in the violence and urging preventive measures.

Local BJP workers also alleged that their party office in Goragacha, Taratala was demolished without notice from the local administration.
