Suvendu Adhikari Condemns Police Action on Protesting Teachers in Kolkata
BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has condemned the police crackdown on upper primary teacher candidates who were protesting against the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) over delays in the appointment process.
In a post on X, Adhikari stated that the candidates were seeking answers from the SSC regarding the delay, despite the Calcutta High Court’s directive to complete the appointments within 12 weeks. He expressed his support for the candidates’ demand for immediate counselling and completion of the recruitment process.
Earlier, police detained several protesting candidates at Kolkata’s Salt Lake. The Kolkata High Court has ordered the release of the appointment list for upper primary teachers, potentially benefiting 14,000 candidates. The court’s decision, announced by Justices Tapabrata Chakraborty and Parthasarathi Chattopadhyay, directs the SSC to publish the final list within four weeks, followed by counselling.
Lawyer Firdaus Shamim mentioned that the SSC had previously invalidated the selection of 1,463 candidates due to errors in the interview OMR seats. The court has instructed that these candidates be reinstated in the merit list and that counselling be conducted for the 14,052 candidates currently on the list.
