Suryakumar Yadav’s Amazing Catch Helps India Win ICC T20 World Cup Against South Africa
Star India batter Suryakumar Yadav made a game-changing catch of David Miller during the ICC T20 World Cup final against South Africa. Initially aiming to save a boundary, Yadav credited fielding coach T Dilip for the team’s fielding success.
Yadav was a standout player for India throughout the World Cup, scoring 199 runs in eight games with two half-centuries. His catch in the final over was crucial, as it helped India secure a seven-run victory and their second ICC T20 World Cup title.
Speaking about the catch, Yadav said, “When I started running, I was not thinking of the catch. I wanted to save the boundary. When the ball came into my hands, I realized I could take the catch and toss the ball up. I had 5-7 seconds to make that call, and I will forever remember those seconds.”
Yadav also highlighted the hard work put in by the team under fielding coach T Dilip, who made them practice such catches regularly. “He has worked very hard with us, and each one of us has trained separately. The catch is a product of the work we have put in,” he added.
In the final match, India won the toss and opted to bat first. Despite early setbacks, a partnership between Virat Kohli (76) and Axar Patel (47) helped India post a total of 176/7. South Africa’s chase was thwarted by India’s bowlers, with Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya making crucial breakthroughs. India restricted South Africa to 169/8, securing a seven-run win.
Virat Kohli was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his performance, and India ended their 11-year ICC title drought.
