The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah honored Suryakumar Yadav with the ‘Fielder of the Match’ award after India’s thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa in the final match of the T20 World Cup 2024.

In the final over, Suryakumar Yadav made a stunning catch to dismiss David Miller, helping India secure the win. The India fielding coach T Dilip praised the team’s performance, highlighting their intensity and resilience throughout the tournament.

India’s Batting Performance

India won the toss and chose to bat first. Despite an early setback at 34/3, a strong partnership between Virat Kohli (76) and Axar Patel (47) helped India recover. Contributions from Shivam Dube (27) took India to a total of 176/7 in 20 overs.

South Africa’s Chase

South Africa started poorly at 12/2 but a partnership between Quinton de Kock (39) and Tristan Stubbs (31) brought them back into the game. Heinrich Klaasen’s half-century (52) posed a threat, but India’s bowlers Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya restricted South Africa to 169/8.

Virat Kohli was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his outstanding performance. This victory marks India’s first ICC trophy since the Champions Trophy in 2013.
