Surinder Kumar Khorwal Shines in T20 National Physical Disability Championship
Udaipur Hosts Inspiring Cricket Tournament
In Udaipur, Rajasthan, the fourth T20 National Physical Disability Championship began on October 15. Surinder Kumar Khorwal, an all-rounder from Rajasthan, stood out as the best performer in the league stage. Despite having a prosthetic left leg and a disability in his right hand, Khorwal scored 300 runs in five innings with a strike rate of 157, including two fifties and one hundred. He also took six wickets with an economy rate of 5.50 using his left-arm spin.
Earlier this year, England’s Test captain Ben Stokes gifted Khorwal a pair of gloves at the Rajasthan Royals’ High Performance Centre in Nagpur. The 27-year-old is a strong contender for the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award, which includes a car from the Shree Chatur Bhuj Foundation.
Tournament Highlights
The championship, organized by the Differently-abled Cricket Council of India (DCCI) with support from Narayan Seva Sanstha, has reached the quarterfinals. The tournament featured 60 matches with 24 state teams across four groups. Rajasthan, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Orissa, Karnataka, Jammu & Kashmir, Mumbai, and Gujarat advanced to the quarterfinals.
Throughout the tournament, players achieved 39 fifties, three centuries, and 355 sixes. Bowlers took 884 wickets, including four five-wicket hauls. The Svyam organization awards Rs 11,000 to the ‘Player of the Match’ in each of the 67 matches. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) provided jerseys, caps, bats, and balls, while the Rajasthan Royals have supported the DCCI since 2021.
Ravikant Chauhan, DCCI secretary, expressed gratitude to BCCI secretary Jay Shah for his continued support, even as he becomes the ICC chairman-elect.
