New Delhi, India – Congress leader Supriya Shrinate has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for not taking action against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the former president of the Wrestling Federation of India. Singh had claimed that the wrestlers’ protest was politically motivated by the Congress party.

Allegations Against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh

Shrinate expressed her shame that Singh, who faces serious allegations of sexual harassment, continues to receive media attention. She highlighted that Vinesh Phogat and six other girls accused Singh of sexual harassment, and questioned why these allegations have not been addressed. Shrinate praised Phogat for her bravery in fighting for her rights despite facing significant challenges.

Media Criticism

Shrinate criticized the media for repeatedly giving Singh a platform to speak against women wrestlers and Bajrang Punia. She questioned why the media finds interest in Singh’s statements while ignoring the voices of the women who accused him. Shrinate also pointed out the inconsistency in the BJP’s stance on women in politics, citing examples of Babita Phogat and Ravindra Jadeja.

Divine Justice

Shrinate asserted that divine justice has been served, as Singh is no longer in Parliament while Vinesh Phogat is on the verge of becoming an MLA. She emphasized that the allegations against Singh still stand and that he should not make such statements in public life.

Brij Bhushan’s Claims

Earlier, Singh had claimed that the wrestlers’ protest was a conspiracy orchestrated by the Congress party, led by Bhupinder Hooda. He stated that the protest, which began in January 2023 at Jantar Mantar, was not a genuine movement of sportspersons but a politically motivated action by the Congress. Singh warned that the Congress would regret their involvement in the protest.

Wrestlers Join Congress

Recently, wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined the Congress party, just a month before the Haryana assembly polls.
