Patna (Bihar) [India], July 10: The Supreme Court has made a new rule that allows Muslim women to get financial support from their husbands. Union Minister Giriraj Singh said this decision is important because it treats everyone equally and helps keep peace in society.

Giriraj Singh said, “We need rules that are the same for everyone. If someone doesn’t follow this rule, they should lose their voting rights and government benefits. This decision will help bring social harmony.”

BJP spokesperson Shazia Ilmi also praised the decision, calling it a big relief for Muslim women. She explained that divorced Muslim women can now ask for financial support under Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). “This is a historic decision and a relief for all Muslim women,” Ilmi said.

However, Maulana Mohammed Shafique Qasmi, the Imam of Nakhoda Masjid, said the decision goes against Islamic Shariat law. He explained that in Islam, a man already provides certain financial support to his wife after divorce. “This maintenance thing is against Islamic Sharia,” Qasmi said.

The Supreme Court ruled that Section 125 CrPC applies to all married women, including Muslim women. The court also said that Indian men should recognize the important role of homemakers and provide financial support to them.

A bench of justices BV Nagarathna and Augustine George Masih made the ruling, stating that Section 125 CrPC, which deals with a wife’s right to maintenance, is applicable to all women, including divorced Muslim women.
