Supreme Court to Hear NEET-UG 2024 Exam Paper Leak Case
The Supreme Court of India will hear a batch of petitions on July 18, 2024, regarding alleged paper leakage and malpractices in the NEET-UG 2024 exam, which was held on May 5. The case will be heard by a bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra.
On July 15, the court adjourned the hearing to allow petitioners to file their responses to affidavits submitted by the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA). The court noted that some parties had not received the affidavits and needed time to prepare their responses.
On July 11, the Central government filed an affidavit denying any mass malpractice in the NEET-UG 2024 exam. The affidavit, based on data analytics by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, indicated no signs of mass malpractice or localized benefits leading to abnormal scores. The Centre also mentioned that counselling would begin in the third week of July and would be conducted in four rounds.
The NTA also submitted an affidavit stating that a video showing a leaked NEET-UG exam paper on Telegram was fake, with a manipulated timestamp. The NTA’s analysis of the distribution of marks at various levels showed normal distribution, with no extraneous factors influencing the results.
The Supreme Court is considering pleas to recall the NEET-UG 2024 results and conduct a fresh examination due to allegations of paper leakage and malpractices. The NEET-UG exam, conducted by the NTA, is crucial for admissions into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in government and private institutions across India. The 2024 exam was held at 4,750 centers, with around 24 lakh candidates appearing.
