Supreme Court Suggests Ministry of Ayush to Create Dashboard for Complaints on Misleading Ads

The Supreme Court of India has recommended that the Ministry of Ayush set up a centralized dashboard to inform citizens about actions taken on complaints regarding misleading advertisements. Justices Hima Kohli and Sandeep Mehta believe this will make data available to the public and help address prosecution under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

The court noted the lack of data on complaints about misleading ads, which leaves consumers in the dark. The suggestion came during a hearing of a plea by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) seeking guidelines to prohibit false advertisements in modern medicine. The IMA also raised concerns about misleading ads by Patanjali Ayurveda and its promoters, Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna, who have apologized and promised to uphold the law.
