Congress Leader Pawan Khera Reacts

The Supreme Court has temporarily halted directives requiring eateries on Kanwar Yatra routes to display the names of their owners. Congress leader Pawan Khera criticized the order, calling it unconstitutional and discriminatory against Dalits, tribals, Muslims, and other minorities.

The court’s decision affects Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh. A bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and SVN Bhatti stated that while food sellers can be asked to display the kind of food they are serving, they must not be forced to disclose their names. The issue will be revisited on July 26.

The directive was initially issued by the Senior Superintendent of Police in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, and was enforced across several districts in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh. The petitions challenging the directive were filed by Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra, the Association for Protection of Civil Rights, Delhi University Professor Apoorvanand, and activist Aakar Patel.

Meanwhile, Khera also spoke about the ongoing Parliament Monsoon Session, which will have 19 sittings until August 12. He highlighted concerns about the NEET exam and Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farmers, criticizing the government for not taking action to help youth and farmers. The Modi government is expected to present six bills during this session, including the Aircraft Act, the Finance Bill, and the budget for Jammu and Kashmir.
