Supreme Court Orders New Investigation Team for Tirupati Prasadam Adulteration Case

The Supreme Court of India has decided to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into claims of adulteration in the famous Tirupati laddu, a prasadam from the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh. This decision was welcomed by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, who expressed his approval on social media.

The SIT will include officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Andhra Pradesh Police, and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The team will be supervised by the CBI director. The Supreme Court emphasized the importance of an independent investigation to maintain the trust of devotees worldwide.

However, the opposition party, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), viewed this as a setback for the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and CM Naidu. They criticized the political handling of the issue and highlighted the Supreme Court’s call for a non-political approach.

The court’s decision replaces a previous SIT set up by the Andhra Pradesh State government, clarifying that this change does not question the credibility of the former team. The court had earlier questioned the public statements made by the Chief Minister regarding the allegations, suggesting that such comments were unnecessary given the ongoing investigation.
