Supreme Court of India Urges Doctors to Return to Work Amid Kolkata Doctor Case

The Supreme Court of India has started its hearing on the rape and murder case of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The court emphasized the need for health professionals to return to work, assuring that no adverse actions would be taken against them.

Chief Justice DY Chandrachud shared a personal story about his experience in a public hospital to highlight the importance of doctors. The court has formed a 10-member National Task Force, including Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, to recommend measures for preventing violence and ensuring safe working conditions for medical professionals.

The task force is expected to submit an interim report within three weeks and a final report within two months. The court also directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to provide a status report on the investigation and asked the West Bengal government to report on a mob attack at the hospital on August 15.

Meanwhile, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi has requested its resident doctors to resume their duties to ensure patient care services are not disrupted. The AIIMS family stands in support of the safety of healthcare professionals across the country.
