Supreme Court of India Declines to Reschedule NEET-PG 2024 Exam
New Delhi, India – On August 9, the Supreme Court of India, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, refused to entertain a petition seeking to reschedule the NEET-PG 2024 exam due to issues with the allocation of exam centres. The court emphasized that it cannot create a new education policy and rescheduling the exam would put many candidates’ careers at risk.
The petitioners, represented by Advocate Anas Tanwir, argued that the allocation of test cities was highly inconvenient and requested clarity on the normalization formula for the two exam batches. They highlighted that the allocation of test cities was announced on July 31, 2024, and specific centres were to be declared on August 8, 2024, making it difficult for students to arrange travel.
The petitioners also expressed concerns about the normalization of marks for the two batches, fearing that one batch might face a more difficult question paper than the other. They urged the court to ensure that the normalization formula is disclosed before the exam to eliminate any possibility of unfairness.
Despite these concerns, the Supreme Court decided not to reschedule the NEET-PG 2024 exam, which is set to be held on August 11, 2024, in 185 test cities. The court assured that the matter would be listed for hearing the next day.
