Supreme Court of India Addresses NEET-UG 2024 Issues and Counselling Process

The Supreme Court of India has decided not to stop the counselling process for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) 2024 (NEET-UG 2024). The court has issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the exam, and has scheduled a hearing for July 8.

A vacation bench of Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti is handling the case. The court is addressing allegations of question paper leaks and other malpractices. Despite these issues, the court reiterated that the counselling process will continue.

The NEET-UG 2024 exam was held on May 5, and results were announced on June 4. Protests erupted due to irregularities, with 67 students scoring a perfect 720. The Supreme Court has allowed over 1,500 students, who were given grace marks, to retake the exam on June 23. The results of this re-exam will be declared by June 30.

The NTA informed the court that the scorecards of 1,563 candidates who received grace marks would be cancelled, giving them the option to retake the exam or forgo the compensatory marks. The court emphasized that any negligence in conducting the NEET-UG 2024 exam would be taken seriously.
