Supreme Court Investigates NEET-UG 2024 Paper Leak

New Delhi, India – The Supreme Court has asked the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Centre to submit detailed affidavits and requested a status report from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding the NEET-UG 2024 exam paper leak by July 10. The court confirmed that the NEET-UG exam held on May 5 was compromised due to a question paper leak.

Details of the Investigation

A bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, has asked the NTA to explain the steps taken to identify the candidates who benefited from the leak. The court also wants to know the locations where the leaks occurred and the methods used to identify the beneficiaries.

Chief Justice Chandrachud stated, “The fact that the sanctity of the exam has been compromised is beyond doubt. It is an admitted fact that there is a leak and the nature of the leak is something that we are determining.”

Next Steps

The court has asked the NTA to provide information on when the leak first occurred, how the leaked papers were distributed, and the time between the leak and the exam. The CBI is also required to submit a status report on their investigation so far.

Alakh Pandey, the petitioner in the case, mentioned that the court is convinced of the leak and wants to determine its extent. Advocate Shwetank added that the Supreme Court has asked the NTA and the Union Government to provide data on the paper’s journey from preparation to distribution.

Impact on NEET-UG 2024

The NEET-UG exam is crucial for admissions into medical and related courses across India. The 2024 exam was held on May 5 across 4,750 centers with around 24 lakh candidates. The court is considering whether a re-examination is necessary based on the extent of the leak.
