Supreme Court Grants Bail to Manish Sisodia in Excise Policy Case
The Supreme Court of India has granted bail to Manish Sisodia in the excise policy irregularities cases. The decision was made by a bench of justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan. The court imposed several conditions, including the surrender of Sisodia’s passport and a prohibition on influencing witnesses.
The case involves allegations of irregularities in the framing and implementation of Delhi’s now-scrapped excise policy. Sisodia, who was arrested in February 2023, is accused of playing a key role in the criminal conspiracy related to the policy.
During the hearing, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, representing the probe agencies, expressed concerns about potential witness influence and destruction of evidence. Senior Advocate A M Singhvi, defending Sisodia, argued that nearly half of the minimum possible sentence had already been served and countered the allegations regarding profit margins.
The Supreme Court’s decision allows Sisodia to revive his plea after the final charge sheet is filed. Sisodia remains in judicial custody as the investigation continues.
