Supreme Court Grants Bail to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, But He Remains in Custody

New Delhi, July 12: The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi Excise Policy case. However, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju clarified that Kejriwal has not been acquitted and remains in the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Rijiju emphasized that the Supreme Court did not declare Kejriwal’s arrest as illegal and that the case will continue. He also mentioned that the court left the decision to resign as Chief Minister to Kejriwal’s conscience, highlighting the importance of morality in leadership.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision but criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly conspiring against Kejriwal. AAP leaders Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj expressed their views on the matter, with Bharadwaj calling the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) a ‘black law’ and stating that the burden of proof now lies with the CBI.

Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with alleged irregularities in the now-cancelled Delhi excise policy for 2021-22. Despite the Supreme Court’s bail, he remains in custody due to the CBI’s involvement in the case.
