Supreme Court Decision on NEET-UG 2024: Pappu Yadav and Rajiv Shukla Speak Out

The Supreme Court has dismissed demands to cancel the NEET-UG 2024 exam despite allegations of paper leaks. Lok Sabha MP Pappu Yadav believes the exam should be cancelled and a new policy created to prevent future leaks. He stated, “An inquiry should be conducted, and the accused should be sent to jail.”

Congress MP Rajiv Shukla commented that the Supreme Court acknowledged discrepancies in the exam and held the government responsible. He said, “It has come out that there were discrepancies. So, who is responsible? It is the government.”

The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, found no systemic breach beyond Patna and Hazaribagh. The court emphasized that the National Testing Agency (NTA) must avoid mistakes in conducting exams, as these errors are costly for students.

The court directed the Central government to restructure the exam process, including security improvements, data protection, periodic audits, surprise inspections, and better logistics. The court highlighted issues like transporting question papers in e-rickshaws and granting compensatory marks, which led to some students scoring full marks.

The detailed judgement was passed on Friday, following the court’s earlier decision on July 23 not to order a re-exam of NEET-UG 2024.
