Supreme Court Asks Patanjali to Confirm Removal of Misleading Ads

The Supreme Court of India has asked Patanjali Ayurved to file an affidavit to confirm whether misleading advertisements for 14 medicinal products have been removed from social media platforms. These products had their manufacturing suspended by the Uttarakhand State Licensing Authority.

The court’s directive came after Patanjali Ayurved submitted an affidavit stating that the sale of these products had been stopped. Additionally, electronic and print media associated with Patanjali were asked to stop advertising these medicines.

The Supreme Court also appointed Shadan Farasat as an amicus in the matter. Meanwhile, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) informed the court that an apology for controversial remarks made during the Patanjali hearing has been published on various media platforms and the IMA website.

Senior Advocate PS Patwalia informed the bench of justices Hima Kohli and Sandeep Mehta that the IMA website features a pop-up of the apology. Dr. RV Asokan, National President of IMA, expressed regret and submitted an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court, stating he never intended to lower the court’s dignity.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for July 30 to further address the Indian Medical Association’s plea for guidelines to prohibit false and misleading advertisements related to Allopathy and Modern Medicine.
