Supreme Court Asks IIT Delhi to Review NEET-UG 2024 Question Amid Paper Leak Allegations

The Supreme Court of India has asked the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi to form a team of three experts to review a disputed question in the NEET-UG 2024 exam. This decision came after some students challenged the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) move to award marks for two different options for the same question.

Key Details:

  • The bench, led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, requested the expert team to provide their opinion by Tuesday 12 noon.
  • The petitioners argued that the NTA’s decision contradicted its own instructions to follow the latest NCERT textbook.
  • The court is also investigating allegations of paper leaks and malpractices in the NEET-UG exam.

During the hearing, senior advocate Narender Hooda, representing the petitioners, mentioned that the Bihar police investigation indicated a leak on May 4, before the question papers were deposited in banks. The court noted that the leak might be localized to Hazaribagh and Patna or could be more widespread.

The NEET-UG 2024 exam, conducted by the NTA, is crucial for admissions into medical and related courses across India. The exam was held on May 5, 2024, with around 24 lakh candidates appearing across 4,750 centers.
