Sunil Jakhar Praises PM Modi for Extending Kartarpur Corridor Agreement

Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar has expressed his appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the renewal of the agreement between India and Pakistan regarding the Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor. This agreement, now extended for another five years, is seen as positive news for the Sikh community.

Jakhar shared his thoughts on social media, stating that the extension is a step towards reducing the distance between the two countries. He thanked PM Modi’s government for this initiative, which allows continued access to the holy shrine through the Kartarpur Corridor.

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also welcomed the decision, emphasizing the Prime Minister’s respect for the Sikh community. Bhandari noted that previous governments had made unfulfilled promises, but PM Modi’s actions demonstrate his commitment to the Sikh community and Punjab.

The original agreement, signed on October 24, 2019, facilitates pilgrim visits from India to the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur in Pakistan’s Narowal district. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the extension, ensuring uninterrupted operation of the Corridor.

Additionally, India has requested Pakistan to waive the USD 20 service charge per pilgrim. Earlier, Pakistan issued 509 visas to Sikh pilgrims for Maharaja Ranjeet Singh’s death anniversary, honoring the first ruler of the Sikh Empire.
