Sumita Dawra, Secretary for the Ministry of Labour and Employment, emphasized the importance of decriminalizing labour laws, increasing female workforce participation, and enhancing social security during an industry interaction in Bengaluru. The event was organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Employers’ Federation of India (EFI).

Over 200 industry members attended the session to gain insights on labour and employment reforms. Dawra highlighted initiatives related to the Ease of Living and Ease of Doing Business reforms and schemes introduced by the Ministry of Labour and Employment. She mentioned that employment trends are improving, with EPFO net subscribers increasing by more than 6 crores since September 2017.

The session also focused on Social Security measures, featuring discussions with representatives from the Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) and Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). Key issues discussed included digital signatures, online claims, and higher pensions.

Kamal Bali, Immediate Past Chairman of CII Southern Region and President & Managing Director of Volvo Group, highlighted the productive discussion on India’s growth and business ecosystem. Ashok Kumar Singh, Director General of ESIC, conducted the interaction on ESIC, addressing queries related to facilities, challans, and dispensaries.

The event concluded positively, with participants appreciating the valuable insights shared by Sumita Dawra and other speakers. CII extended its gratitude to all participants and looks forward to continued engagement with the Ministry of Labour & Employment to support ongoing reforms and initiatives aimed at enhancing the Ease of Doing Business.
