Sumit Antil Breaks Record and Wins Gold in Paralympics Javelin Throw
New Delhi, India – Sumit Antil has made history by becoming the first Indian male para-athlete to defend his gold medal at the Paralympics. Competing in the javelin throw F64 class final, Sumit set a new record with a throw of 70.59 meters, surpassing his previous record of 68.55 meters set in Tokyo.
Sumit started the event with a throw of 69.11 meters, breaking his own Paralympic record. He then improved it further with a second throw of 70.59 meters. Now, Sumit aims to reach the 80-meter mark in the future. He expressed his desire to spend more time with his family after dedicating months to his training.
In the same event, Sumit’s fellow Indian athlete Sandeep achieved a season-best throw of 62.80 meters but finished in fourth place, missing out on a medal. Another Indian participant, Sandip Sanjay Sagar, had a best throw of 58.03 meters.
Before Sumit’s victory, para-shuttler Nitesh Kumar won gold in the men’s singles SL3 category, and para-shooter Avani Lekhra secured India’s first gold in the women’s 10m air rifle final at the Paris Paralympics.
