Sumit Antil Breaks Paralympic Record Twice to Win Gold in Paris
Indian para-athlete Sumit Antil won gold in the F64 javelin throw at the ongoing Paris Paralympics. He broke the Paralympic record twice during the event. Sumit started with a throw of 69.11m, surpassing his previous record of 68.55m set in Tokyo. In his second throw, he set a new record with a distance of 70.59m.
Sumit expressed his pride in winning the gold medal for the second time and described the record-breaking achievement as the ‘icing on the cake.’ He shared that the night before the match, he and other athletes were too excited to sleep and were hanging out and eating outside. Paralympic Committee of India president Devendra Jhajaria came down to motivate them.
Sumit also mentioned his conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi after his win, expressing gratitude for the government’s support. The Indian contingent has won 21 medals so far, including three golds, eight silvers, and ten bronzes. Sachin Khilari secured a silver medal in the men’s shot put F46 final with a 16.32m throw.
