Suma Shirur Wins Coach of the Year at Indian Sports Honours 2024
In Mumbai, Maharashtra, Suma Shirur, an Olympian and former chief coach of the Indian Shooting Team, was awarded the Coach of the Year (Female) by the Indian Sports Honours 2024. Shirur, the first Indian woman to reach an Olympic final, was recognized for her role in guiding the Indian shooting team to success at the Paris Olympics and Paralympics. Her efforts in promoting gender parity in sports were also celebrated.
The award ceremony gathered top athletes, coaches, and sports personalities. Under Shirur’s mentorship, India’s shooters won three Olympic medals, marking a resurgence in Indian shooting. Notably, she helped Avani Lekhara secure her second Paralympics Gold in the Women’s 10m event.
