Students Protest NEET Exam Issues: Calls for Education Minister’s Resignation

In Darjeeling, West Bengal, students and their families are protesting against alleged irregularities in the NEET 2024 exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The West Bengal State Chhatra Parishad, a student organization of Congress, demonstrated against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, demanding his resignation.

One protester stated, “Our demand is that the NEET exam should be conducted again as it is a question of the future of 24 lakh students. Not only the students but their parents are also involved. The current situation is having a negative impact on those students who are preparing for the exam.”

Meanwhile, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) also held a protest in Delhi. On their official X handle, NSUI posted, “Until the NEET candidates get justice, NSUI will continue to struggle from the streets to the corridors of the House. We demand that NEET students should be given justice by conducting a re-examination, and corrupt institutions like NTA should be banned.”

NSUI National President Varun Choudhary, along with NEET students and their families, conveyed this message to Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan from Jantar Mantar, stating that their struggle will continue until the students get justice.

The NTA is facing criticism over alleged irregularities in the exams, with an unprecedented 67 candidates achieving a perfect score of 720 out of 720, adding to the concerns. The Ministry of Education has formed a high-level committee of experts, led by former ISRO chairman Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, to recommend reforms in the examination process and data security protocols. The committee will submit its report in the next two months.
