New Delhi, India – The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed a penalty of Rs 3 lakh on Sriram’s IAS coaching institute for misleading advertisements about their UPSC exam results. The CCPA, led by Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare and Commissioner Anupam Mishra, took this action to protect consumer rights and ensure truthful advertising.

The CCPA found that Sriram’s IAS claimed “200 plus selections in UPSC Civil Service Exam 2022” and “We are India’s No.1 Prestigious UPSC/IAS Coaching Institute” without disclosing the courses opted by the successful candidates. The investigation revealed that out of 171 successful candidates, many had only attended free programs or had already cleared significant exam stages independently.

The CCPA emphasized the importance of accurate information in advertisements to help consumers make informed choices. The authority stated that misleading ads violate consumer rights and create false impressions among UPSC aspirants.

The CCPA’s decision underscores the need for honest representation of facts in advertisements to protect consumers from unfair trade practices.
