Srinagar, located in Jammu and Kashmir, is preparing to host a significant three-day event organized by the World Craft Council. This event, themed “Craft, Creativity & Compassion,” will take place from November 25 to November 27, marking the 60th Jubilee of the Council.

Celebrating Srinagar’s Craft Heritage

This celebration is particularly special as it highlights Srinagar’s recent recognition as a World Craft City. The event will showcase the traditional crafts of Jammu and Kashmir, including Pashmina, Carpet Weaving, and Papermache. Supported by UNESCO and various Indian government ministries, the event aims to foster cultural exchange and provide global visibility to the region’s handicraft sector.

Preparations and Arrangements

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, held a meeting to review the preparations for this grand celebration. Key officers, including the Managing Director of JKTDC and the Director of Tourism Kashmir, attended the meeting. Discussions focused on arrangements for participant reception at the airport, hospitality, accommodation, transportation, and security measures.

Ensuring Event Success

During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner emphasized the importance of the event and urged officers to implement comprehensive plans for their respective departments. He assigned specific responsibilities for organizing activities at SKICC, from the inaugural ceremony to the closing function, and for arranging guided tours to highlight Kashmir’s cultural heritage.

The Director of Handicrafts and Handloom also provided insights into the event’s significance and the support needed from various departments.
