Sri Lanka’s eight-wicket victory over England in the third Test at Kennington Oval has significantly improved their standing in the World Test Championship (WTC). Despite England winning the series, Sri Lanka’s win elevated them to fifth place in the rankings.

In a thrilling final game, Sri Lanka stood tall and secured their first Test win in England in ten years. The visitors were initially trailing by 62 runs, having been restricted to 263 in response to England’s 325. However, the pace trio of Lahiru Kumara, Vishwa Fernando, and Asitha Fernando led a remarkable comeback, reducing England to 82/7 on Day 3.

England’s young wicketkeeper-batter played a counter-attacking knock, scoring 67 off 50 deliveries, which helped England reach 156. In reply, Pathum Nissanka’s unbeaten 127 off 124 deliveries guided Sri Lanka to an eight-wicket victory.

Following this win, Sri Lanka now holds the fifth spot in the WTC standings with three wins and a points percentage of 42.857 after seven Tests. England, with eight wins in 16 matches, are just below them with a points percentage of 42.187. India continues to lead the chart with six wins in nine matches and a points percentage of 68.52, followed by Australia with eight wins in 12 matches and a points percentage of 62.50.
