Sri Lanka’s Dimuth Karunaratne Talks About Tough Conditions in England Ahead of Third Test

Sri Lanka’s batter Dimuth Karunaratne has shared his thoughts on the challenging conditions for batters in England as they prepare for the third Test match against England. Karunaratne, who has scored 91 runs in the first two matches of the series, noted that even English batters have struggled in these conditions.

Currently, Sri Lanka is trailing 2-0 in the series after losing the first two matches. In the first game, Sri Lanka lost by five wickets, and in the second match, they were defeated by 190 runs.

Karunaratne pointed out that Joe Root’s performances have been crucial in England’s victories. Despite Sri Lanka’s efforts to contain Root, he has consistently scored heavily, making a significant impact on the matches.

In the second Test, England won the toss and chose to bat first, scoring 427 runs in their first innings. Joe Root scored 143 runs, and Gus Atkinson added 118 runs. Asitha Fernando was the standout bowler for Sri Lanka, taking five wickets.

Sri Lanka struggled in their first innings, managing only 196 runs, with Kamindu Mendis scoring 74 runs. England’s bowlers, including Chris Woakes and Olly Stones, performed well, taking multiple wickets.

In England’s second innings, they were bowled out for 251 runs, with Root scoring another century. Sri Lanka’s bowlers, Asitha Fernando and Lahiru Kumara, took three wickets each.

Chasing a target of 483 runs, Sri Lanka showed some resistance with half-centuries from Dimuth Karunaratne, Dinesh Chandimal, and Dhananjaya de Silva. However, they were eventually bowled out for 292 runs, losing the match by 190 runs. Gus Atkinson was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his all-round performance.
