Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka Talks About Loss to India in 2nd T20I

Pallekele [Sri Lanka], July 29: After losing the second T20I against India, Sri Lanka’s captain Charith Asalanka shared his thoughts on the defeat, mentioning that the team struggled to score runs in the final overs. India’s strong performance helped them secure a 2-0 lead in the three-match series on Sunday.

The match, held at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, saw India win by seven wickets. Asalanka said, ‘I am really disappointed with the way we batted at the death and about our middle order and lower middle order including me. We must really improve in our batting. On this pitch, when the ball gets older, it gets really hard to bat. As professional cricketers, we have to do well. We were behind by 15-18 runs. Unfortunately, weather also played something, we can’t control that. It’s easy when it comes to an 8-over game with a wet outfield.’

In the second T20I, Suryakumar Yadav led India to win the toss and choose to bowl first. Sri Lanka scored 161/9 in their 20 overs, with notable contributions from Kushal Perara (53 runs), Pathum Nissanka (32 runs), and Kamindu Mendis (26 runs). India’s Ravi Bishnoi took three wickets, while Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya each took two wickets.

Due to rain, the match was shortened to 8 overs, and India chased the target of 78 runs in 6.3 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the highest scorer for India with 30 runs. Sri Lanka’s Theekshana, Pathirana, and Hasaranga each took one wicket. Ravi Bishnoi was named Player of the Match for his excellent performance.
