Sri Lanka’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tharaka Balasuriya, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a ‘charming’ and ‘visionary’ leader. Balasuriya agreed with Modi’s view that increased connectivity between Sri Lanka, India, Myanmar, and Thailand could boost opportunities.

Balasuriya attended the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Foreign Minister’s Retreat in New Delhi. He emphasized the importance of energy, food, and people’s security, noting that the retreat allowed for open and candid discussions.

He highlighted India’s e-visa for medical tourism, which will benefit people in the BIMSTEC region. Balasuriya also discussed the potential for new revenue streams from wind power in Sri Lanka, as suggested by PM Modi.
