Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has named their squad for the second Test match against England, which will start on Thursday and continue until Monday at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Key Players in the Squad
Dimuth Karunaratne and Nishan Madushka will open the batting order. Pathum Nissanka, who has been added to the playing eleven, and Angelo Mathews will play in the middle order. The top bowlers in the first eleven will be Prabath Jayasuriya, Asitha Fernando, Milan Rathnayake, and Kamindu Mendis.
Recap of the First Test
In the first match of the series, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. Despite struggling at 113/7, skipper Dhananjaya de Silva and Milan Rathnayake helped the team reach 236/10. England’s Chris Woakes and Shoaib Bashir were the top bowlers, taking three wickets each.
England, despite a tricky start at 67/3, managed to score 358 runs, thanks to strong performances from Joe Root, Harry Brook, and centurion Jamie Smith. Ashitha Fernando and Prabhat Jayasuriya were the standout bowlers for Sri Lanka.
In their second innings, Sri Lanka faced difficulties again but a 78-run partnership between Angelo Matthews and Dinesh Chandimal, along with Kamindu Mendis’ century, helped them set a total of 326/10, giving them a lead of 204 runs. England eventually won the match by five wickets, with notable contributions from Root, Brook, and Smith.
