Jodhpur (Rajasthan) [India], September 24: Former cricketer Sreesanth believes that without the amazing all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, India wouldn’t have won the first T20 World Cup in 2007.

Seventeen years ago, on September 24, at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, India made history by winning the inaugural T20 World Cup. In the final match, India faced their arch-rival, Pakistan. It was a thrilling game, and the combined efforts of the players helped India win the title.

Reflecting on this historic win, Sreesanth emphasized that it was a team effort. He said, “It was the senior and junior combination. Dhoni was captain, but without Yuvraj, I don’t think we would have won the World Cup. We didn’t win the World Cup just because of Dhoni. His captaincy was good, but the entire team.. it was like a family atmosphere. The entire management was with us. We won the World Cup because of everyone, not just a single person.”

Yuvraj Singh’s performance was unforgettable, especially when he hit six sixes in one over against England in the group stage. This incredible feat set the stage for India’s big win.

In the final, Pakistan was close to winning, but Dhoni made a bold decision by giving the ball to Joginder Sharma for the last over. Although Joginder conceded a six, Sreesanth caught Misbah-ul-Haq’s scoop shot, securing India’s victory.

Sreesanth also shared his personal highlights from the match, saying, “Yes, I took the last catch, and I caught Afridi’s catch before that. I took the ninth wicket of Sohail Tanveer with a yorker. So it felt good. It was a big opportunity to play for India and win the World Cup.”

Irfan Pathan was named ‘Man of the Match’ in the final for his excellent bowling, taking three key wickets and finishing with figures of 3/16.
