Sreeja Akula Makes History by Winning WTT Contender Title in Lagos

Sreeja Akula, an Indian table tennis player, made history on Sunday by winning the World Table Tennis (WTT) Contender singles title in Lagos, Nigeria. She became the first Indian to win the singles crown.

Thrilling Final Match

In the final match, Sreeja faced Ding Yijie from China and won 4-1 with scores of 10-12, 11-9, 11-6, 11-8, and 11-6.

Semi-Final Matches

In the semi-finals, Sreeja played against her fellow Indian, Sutirtha Mukherjee, and won 3-2. In the other semi-final, Ayhika Mukherjee lost to Ding Yijie 2-3, setting up the final clash between Sreeja and Ding.

Women’s Doubles Victory

Earlier in the day, Sreeja and her partner Archana Girish Kamath won the women’s doubles title by defeating Yashaswini Ghorpade and Diya Parag Chitale 3-0. They won in straight sets with scores of 11-9, 11-6, and 12-10. In the semi-finals, Sreeja and Archana defeated Ayhika and Sutirtha Mukherjee 3-0 with scores of 11-5, 11-7, and 12-10.
