Spiritual Speaker Mahavishnu Faces Court in Chennai Over School Controversy

Spiritual Speaker Mahavishnu was brought before the Saidapet Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Chennai on Wednesday. He was booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and The Rights of Persons with Disability Act, 2016, following a complaint against him.

The issue arose from ‘Spiritual Awakening Classes’ conducted at Ashok Nagar Girls Higher Secondary School in Chennai. This led to the transfer of the school’s principal, R Thamilarasi, to another school in Thiruvallur district. The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) protested against the spiritual sessions.

School Education Department Chief Educational Officer, S Mars, met with the protesters and assured them of strict action. Chief Minister MK Stalin also addressed the criticism, highlighting the state’s commitment to scientific education. He announced new guidelines to ensure that school programs promote progressive and scientific ideas.

Chief Minister Stalin stated, “Our high-quality textbooks contain the best scientific ideas that students need to know. The teachers themselves can bring out the best ideas needed to face future challenges with confidence and sharpen the knowledge. Actions will be taken by the School Education Department to provide the necessary innovative training, social education with appropriate departmental experts and scholars.”

He added, “I have decreed to formulate and issue new guidelines for regulating various programs in schools in the state so that all our school children who are the future generation of Tamil Nadu, get progressive-scientific ideas and lifestyles. Individual progress, ethical living and sound ideas for social development should be inculcated in the hearts of the students. Over the past three years, I have consistently emphasized the importance of education and the need to develop scientific thinking at numerous events.”
