SpiceJet Removed from Enhanced Surveillance by DGCA
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has lifted the enhanced surveillance status on SpiceJet, a budget airline, as of Tuesday. This decision follows the airline’s placement under increased scrutiny on September 13, 2024, due to financial challenges that could have impacted aircraft maintenance obligations.
A senior DGCA official reported that 266 spot checks were conducted at various locations as part of this enhanced surveillance. The checks ensured that any deficiencies found were addressed appropriately by SpiceJet. With the infusion of additional funds into the company, the DGCA decided to remove the airline from the enhanced surveillance regime.
Despite this change, the DGCA will continue to perform random spot checks on SpiceJet’s operational fleet to maintain safety standards. The airline was initially placed under surveillance due to financial difficulties that led to delays in salary and vendor payments.
